Would Martin O’Neill be a good acquisition?

Speculation surrounding Martin O’Neill’s future at Aston Villa increases despite our fantastic victory over Inter Milan this evening in front of a packed and rapturous Anfield crowd.
AstonVilla-mad.co.uk have published an interesting article that basically states that we could take O’Neill whenever we wanted to, should our owners, whomever that may be, decide to axe Rafa Benitez from the managerial hotseat, as the desire to manage one of the “big ones” could simply be too much of a tempting offer for the successful Irishman.
“Villa have stated that they would not welcome any approach from Liverpool for manager Martin O’Neill. The Anfield side have undergone a troubled time recently and they were knocked out of the F.A. Cup just last weekend by Championship side Barnsley.
Although they won their Champions League tie against Inter Milan on Tuesday, Benitez knows that if the club fails to succeed in the competition then he could be out of a job.
O’Neill has been brilliant at Villa Park since he joined in 2006 and the club currently sit in sixth place in the Premiership. Villa are even managing to challenge Liverpool for the coveted fourth Champions League spot, showing how stablility is the key to success.
A club the size of Liverpool would be difficult for the Northern Irishman to turn down. However, it is widely acknowledged that Villa have an American owner who will further the club. The question is whether Liverpool’s bosses from the same country have the same desire.”
Would it be a good decision to change manager at such a critical time for our club? Is Rafa the right man for a squad re-build during the summer months that await us?
Many sources have even gone as far as stating that Rafa will be sacked even if we win the Champions Legaue this season, which when you think about Jose ‘Maureen’ Mourinho’s situation at Chavski just a short while ago, it sounds a likely scenario in today’s modern game.
Whichever way you look at it, Martin O’Neill has been a success wherever he has gone, almost throughout his entire career - usually on a shoestring budget too!
This obviously begs the question: “Would Martin O’Neill be a good acquisition?”
