Whelen plays down Valencia talk
Published by Redneck on May 16, 2008
Wigan chairman Dave Whelan today played down talk that Benitez-target Antonio Valencia will make a move away from the JJB during the summer transfer window after being linked with a switch to either Anfield or Castle Greyskull.
“There is interest in both players, and there’s bound to be because they are quality, but we haven’t had an offer from any club and we hope we won’t have any at all.” said Whelan.
After learning that both Liverpool and Man Ure were interested in the Wigan star, Whelen made an attempt to ensure their futures remain with the club.
“We are told their agents have advised them to stay at Wigan for at least another season so that they can continue to learn from Steve Bruce.
“We value them greatly because they’re a couple of cracking lads and they seem happy to stay.” he added.
