Wenger Dreaming of a Spanish Midfield
Published by fowlergod9 on August 4, 2008
Arsene Wenger dreams of a Spanish midfield with the purchase of Xabi Alonso in order to partner Cesc Fabregas at Arsenal next season.
However, Arsenal are not prepared to pay the £18m demanded by Liverpool for the Spanish midfielder as they value him closer to £10.5m, the same price Liverpool paid for him four years ago.
“I don’t think it will be easy [for him to leave],” admitted Benítez in Glasgow on Saturday. “The value of Alonso in the market will be really high. We are really pleased with him and we don’t want him to go unless we get a very good price.”
Liverpool are no longer required to sell Alonso in order to finance the Barry deal as Hicks and Gillett have (reportedly) promised to underwrite a loan of £18m.
