Trio faces fitness test

Steven Gerrard, Xabi Alonso and Robbie Keane are facing a race against time to prove their fitness for Sunday’s eagerly awaited clash with Chelsea.

The skipper was taken off during the Reds’ Champions League game in Madrid last week due to ‘tiredness’.

Keane picked up a groin strain while Alonso had a knock on his knee and was asking to be substituted.

Gerrard is likely to be fit to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge tomorrow but Keane and Alonso are in doubt for the showdown.
