This Saturday

Newcastle United have yet to win under Kevin Keegan and the former Kop idol returns to Anfield once again as manager of the North-East team. Famously as Newcastle manager he was seen bowing his head as Stan Collymore stole in to win the game in a famous 4-3 victory for Liverpool.

This Saturday, he aims to get his first win since his return to St James’ Park as their manager. I will be there seeing how he gets on. Defeats and failure to score has demoralised the whole team. Last weekend, Matt Derbyshire scored a late cruel blow after Michael Owen failed to net several oppurtunities.

Owen is another ex-red returning and he should start for the magpies at the stadium which earned him his name. Michael Owen netted 158 goals in 297 games. I was a massive Owen fan and i will hope to see him have a good game at Anfield where my vantage point shall be almost in line with the goalpost underneath the scoreboard.

The Odds are stacked unfavourably against the Geordies having seen Liverpool win at St James’ Park earlier in the season and having been stuffed 3-0 twice by Arsenal and 5-1 and 6-0 by Man United. If Keegan can get his side to get their first win here then the race for 4th place tips away from Liverpool and heads to Everton.

A Liverpool win could see Newcastle in the relegation zone if the results conspire against them. They are just 3 points above Reading at the time of going to print. Steven Gerrard will hope to net a free-kick just like the one he crashed in earlier in the season. Liverpool will probably like to see Alonso get a goal from his own half like he did in this fixture last season which most notably saw a first goal for Dutchman Dirk Kuyt. Torres will be looking for more goals in front of the home crowd and a hat-trick at the kop-end would go down a treat with the red faithful.

My prediction is a great game of football but a merciful 4-0 victory for the reds.
