Chatting with the Enemy: A Boro Fan

Earlier this week I went into Middlesbrough section of BBC Sport’s 606 message boards, and asked “Boro_1992″ a few questions.

1. Your thoughts on Middlesbrough’s season so far.

Boro_1992: Your thoughts on Middlesbrough’s season so far.

2. How much have you missed Yakubu and Mark Viduka?

Boro_1992: Lots. We dont have that 20 a season goal scorer in yak and the world class play from viduka.
Bring in Alvez and we wont miss yaks lack of effort!!

3. Adam Johnson is a bright talent for the future, and teams like Spurs and Everton are interested in him. Do you think that you can keep him?

Boro_1992: Yes. I think he wouldn’t want to go to spurs/ everton. Hes a local lad, just starting out here and at those clubs he wouldn’t get 1st team football.

4. Would you rather stick with Gareth Southgate, or have Steve McLaren back in charge?

Boro_1992: Gareth by a mile. At least GS plays good football, where as mac was boring AND tactically miles away! And i think that GS will look to develop the youth system more than mac.If mac was putback in charge, im sure he would demand £20 mill+ transfer because he is a “big name” manager! Then he would p*** off 2 newcastle!

5. Even with Jonathan Woodgate at the back, Boro seem to leak goals at times. How will your defence cope with Fernando Torres? Or will it be like last season, when you miraculously sneaked a point?

Boro_1992: Recently, weve looked solid. Its i think, poor goal keeping. It seems everything on target goes in! Torres, as ive not seen liverpool live this year at all, i think we will cope with him, if we let him know hes in for a game. Like get wheter to produce a stunning challange. Not sure if torres is the most physical player!

6. David Wheater is your third highest goal scorer this season. Ever thought about playing him up front?

Boro_1992: Well, he used to be a striker! So, he is actually back up! But hes been a success story at the back this year! England prospect?

7. What were your expectations at the start of the season?

Boro_1992: well, i was looking top 10, but that did change after transfer deadline day when we lost 2 strikers and didn’t really replace them. Then it was to be ahead of the barcodes. We always knew that this was going to be a tough season, a work in progress, and it is turning out like that.

8. Have they changed?

Boro_1992: Not really. But i would could see a cup run maybe, but thats second on my list to survival (which after a sticky patch, looks like its possible… just need to sort out home form, starting against liverpool. Its just a shame our home form isnt that good.. We would be pushing for top 8 if it was as good as last season, which would have happened if we had Vid still… and mido fit! But thats football…

9. Boro have a lot of potential England players. Apart from Jonathan Woodgate and Stewart Downing, who do you think Fabio Capello should keep an eye on?

Boro_1992: Wheater, Jinky (but those 3 are one in the future), catts Young…..

I hope to see capello stay on for long enough to see through the next crop of youngsters. It would be best for the next england 11!

10. What do you think the score on Saturday will be?

Boro_1992: Tough game for both i say. Both teams not functioning to there potential. But, if boro can play like we did against arsenal, it should be a great game.

Boro 1 liverpool 1 (and i would be pleased with that)
