Teammates devastated with Torres injury
Published by SoV on October 16, 2008
Fernando Torres looks set to miss the return to his former club, Atletico Madrid, after suffering a muscle injury while on international duty.
While the player himself is said to be disappointed, his fellow Liverpool and Spain teammates, Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa, believe that the Torres injury is a huge blow for both, club and country.
“It’s double bad news for us, as it’s terrible for Spain and Liverpool,” Alonso told the offish site.
“We are going to suffer from his unavailability.
“We will see the extent of the injury after scans, but until Christmas we have a tough schedule with key matches against Atletico Madrid and Chelsea and we could miss him a lot.
“I saw him devastated because he was in pain and it’s not the first time this has happened to him while playing with Spain.
“It’s a blow while he was in a good goalscoring form.”
Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa echoed Alonso’s sentiments that the loss of Torres is a massive blow for the Anfield side.
Arbeloa added: “We saw him upset because it’s another muscular injury at an important moment. He was dying to play against Atletico Madrid.
“We are hopeful this isn’t too serious at the end of the day and that he will be back soon because his absence is a blow for Liverpool.”
