Swans in dreamworld with Anfield draw
The Swansea players, and even the manager, has taken time out to enthuse on the prospect of playing in front of thousands at Anfield after being drawn together in the 4th Round of this year’s FA Cup - the only stumbling block in the way is that both Liverpool and Swansea must beat their 3rd opponents, Luton Town and Havant & Waterlooville respectively.
Swansea midfielder, and life-long Liverpool fan, Andy Robinson is trying to keep his feet on the ground by saying:
“I’ve never played against Liverpool, so if they beat Luton in their replay and we win ours it will be a dream come true to play against the Reds at Anfield. It’s a very exciting prospect but, like the Trophy, we can’t get ahead of ourselves.
“In any case the League is our priority, and after missing out in the Play-Off final two years ago then finishing seventh last season we are determined to make it third time lucky. I’m confident we can do it, too - there’s a great belief in the squad that this is our year, and we all feel we can make it to the Championship.”
Meanwhile, Swans manager, Roberto Martinez (pictured), beamed at the prospect of tackling Rafael Benitez and his tactics.
“It gives you a little bit more determination to try to get through. I have huge admiration for Rafa Benitez for what he’s achieved in British football and in European football and in Spain.” he said.
“It would be a pleasure if we could play an official game against each other.
“It’s a difficult situation to talk about a possible game, we just need to make sure we get there, It’s a bit of a strange feeling really because it’s a draw all Swansea City fans will be looking forward to, but at the moment, we’ve got too many things in front of us to lose concentration.” he added.
“We’ve got the replay, and a few games in front of it.
“I don’t think they (Liverpool) looked into that beforehand and I think it will be too late to stop it,” said Martinez, referring to whether Paul Anderson would be allowed to feature as part of his loan deal at Swansea
“It would be a dream draw for Paul being away from home and he’s developed as a player and would be a great opportunity to go up to Anfield and show his standard at the moment.”
On the other side of the coin, Havant & Waterlooville manager Shaun Gale, said of the prospect of facing the Reds:
“It’s fantastic!” he beamed.
“We’ve got a tough tie getting past Swansea, but everyone was jumping around. It’s potentially something fantastic for the club, for me and for everyone connected. It’s been a fairy-tale. You see it every season and this year it’s been us and it’s great.”
