Reds Release Barry Statement
Published by JMitchell on August 10, 2008
Liverpool Fc have responded to Saturdays rumours regarding the transfer of Gareth Barry which stated that American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks are blocking the 27 year olds move to Anfield.
A Statement on the offish site said “There has been a lot of comment today regarding our position with regards to Gareth Barry. This is not about questioning the Manager’s judgement or the ability of a particular player. The owners have clearly demonstrated throughout the year they are willing to back Rafa in the transfer market and will continue to do so”.
“It is obviously the selling club’s prerogative to put whatever price they want on the player, but on this occasion Liverpool think the price quoted is too high.”
Aston Villa are holding out for an £18m bid from Liverpool but the Reds may need to sell in order to buy Barry, with the futures of Andriy Voronin, Jermaine Pennant and Steve Finnan still unclear as they may need to be sold to raise funds to complete such a deal.
