Preview: Liverpool v Sunderland
Published by F9T on February 1, 2008
A fixture between two teams that haven’t had the perfect year this year, and really could go either way. Sunderland have not won away all season, whilst Liverpool have been suffering themselves at home this season.
Liverpool:
Liverpool are STILL on a poor run of form in the league, having not won since the 1-2 victory over Derby. Draws with Wigan, Man City, and Aston Villa and a shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of West Ham on Wednesday could have been turned into wins with a better striking performance. Mark Noble’s 89th minute penalty at Upton park provided Liverpool with yet more pressure as they go in pursuit of 4th place. Liverpool have Mascherano back, after a one match ban, but Arbeloa and Voronin are out with Injuries. Daniel Agger is expected to feature later on this month after resuming full training.
Sunderland :
Only 2 points away from home all season have been the story for Sunderland, after Roy Keane admitted his side would have to rely on home form to remain in the league. And with 6 players out injured, you would have to say they don’t have the strength, and especially the depth in the squad to take anything from Anfield, then again, when playing Liverpool you never can tell.
Squads:
Liverpool: Reina, Finnan, Carragher, Hyypia, Skrtel, Riise, Aurelio, Pennant, Gerrard, Mascherano, Alonso, Babel, Benayoun, Crouch, Torres, Kuyt, Kewell, Lucas, Itandje.
Sunderland: Gordon, Ward, Fulop, Bardsley, McShane, Evans, Collins, Harte, Whitehead, Miller, O’Donovan, Richardson, Jones, Waghorn, Murphy, Stokes, Chopra, Prica.
Match Prediction:
Both sides not doing well, but with only 2 points from their away games this season, you have to go for a comfortable Liverpool win here.
Liverpool 2-0 Sunderland
This season’s reverse fixture:
Sunderland 0-2 Liverpool
(Sissoko 37’, Vovonin 87’)
