Poor Liverpool Held To Goalless Draw

Published by JMitchell on August 14, 2008

A poor peformance away from home against Standard Liege has left Liverpool with a big task ahead in the 2nd leg on the 27th August.

Liverpool got off to a shaky start when Pepe Reina was forced to stretch and clear a ball of his own goal line and moments later the Spanish shot stopper was made to save a penalty after Andreas Dossena handled the ball which seemed to be outside the box.

The Belgians controlled throughout and had Liverpool in their pockets, with only Reina able to keep Liverpool in the game. Again Robbie Keane had a quiet match, alongside Torres and looked frustrated as he left the pitch to be replaced by skipper Steven Gerrard who came on midway through the second half to try and seal the win but even ‘Captain Fantastic’ wasn’t able to lift his team.

Liverpool go into the weekend with their first Premier League game of the season against Sunderland, with tonight’s performance filling them with confidence.
