Official: Hicks turns down DIC
Published by Redneck on March 10, 2008
Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks has issued a statement and has been published on the Offish site stating that he has rejected DIC’s attempt to buy into the club and will no longer entertain the idea of handing any share of Liverpool Football Club over to DIC.
“Based on a meeting held earlier today in Dubai between my representatives and officials of Dubai International Capital LLC, as well as other recent contacts between us and them, I have decided to terminate any further discussions with DIC regarding their possible purchase of a minority stake in Kop and, in turn, in the Club.
“DIC made it clear that if they invested in the Club, they would want it to be managed by committee. Based on my thirteen years of successful experience as an owner of professional sports teams, and based in particular on the situation at Liverpool Football Club over the past year, it is clear to me that such a committee approach would not be in the best interest of Kop, of the Club or of the Club’s loyal and passionate supporters.
“Accordingly, I have decided to exercise my right under the Kop Football (Holdings) Limited partnership agreement to veto any sale of any portion of Kop and the Club to DIC.
“I and my colleagues and representatives will continue to explore a number of other options with regard to the ownership of Kop and the Club aimed at achieving an appropriate ownership, financial and organizational structure for Kop and the Club over the long term.”

liverpool people are special people they are the most friendly people in the world but they wont let anyone try to kid them and they can spot a phoney in the next county, if hicks thinks they will capitulate like manchester utd fans he is very very mistaken, he is being given an easy time (present demonstrations are nothing at all) because fans are hoping he will take his betrayal dollars and go, his only alternative is to genuinely change his attitude big time but if he messes up our club any more he will wish he had never heard of liverpool fc, ask the owners of the sun newspaper even after all these years they struggle to sell the rag at all in liverpool
I don’t think this will be the end of the DIC’s interest, there will be more twists to this saga I’m sure…
We have to club together and get Hicks out. Boycott games.whatever but he has to go. I could have bought our club on the basis of loans. How rock solid would DIC have been for our future. none or very little debt. Moores you brought this on our beloved club. Lets just hope that DIC push this ‘VETO’ rubbish further and gain control. They need OUR help now because I think they genualy care for the future of LFC. Hicks is simply scared of DIC’s intent of owning LFC outright. |With DIC’s resources it would be only a matter of time until they did. Liverpool FC are a global army, its time to unite together and get this Hicks out of our club. YNWA
Right I’m gonna light a few fireworks here and say we should get behind Hicks and show some bloody support!
Let’s see how things pan-out before jumping on the “I hate H&G bandwagon” shall we?
The people who are already riding it could trip themselves up in a few months time purely because they are protesting far too strongly at such an early point of the H&G ownership of LFC.
Let’s get this season out of the way, see what happens in the transfer market, see what happens with our new stadium and THEN make a united decision to either back or oust him (them).
Redneck - Are you Tom Hicks in disguise?
All im trying to say is wait until the end of the season to start shouting from the rooftops as it is doing our team no good at all.
Maybe not now, but January/February was a nightmare and it was obvious that all the negativity from our fans was affecting our players’ performance.
Could YOU concentrate on your game if 40,000+ kopites are singing anti-H&G songs during a game?
I’m just glad they’re saving it for Half and full time now.
I agree about saving it for 1/2 and FT - it show LFC fans have really thought about this. For Hicks to release this statement on the eve of such an important game is idiotic.
One of the reasons I love RB is the way he conducts himself - remember maureen trying to wind him up? He refused to be drawn. Hicks has no ability to consider the wider picture and is willing to damage our club for profit, ego or both.
Agreed on the conduct of RB, but I cant see why you would call Hicks’ statement as idiotic, this isn’t going to affect our players in the slightest - they are professionals who are already in Italy and concentrating fully on the match ahead.
Hicks is a liability to the club and should sell up and go now rather than later. I doubt we will ever see Hicks or Hicks Jnr at any future Liverpool games but I still can’t believe Rick Parry has the nerve to show up at games.
