Newcastle Ready To Raid Anfield For Kop Trio
Former Liverpool legend and current Newcastle United manager Kevin Keegan looks set to raid Anfield this summer as Benitez prepares a clear-out.After being linked with John Arne Riise and Harry Kewell, Keegan is understood to be interested in signing wide-man Jermaine Pennant in a bid to bring adventurous attacking football to St. James’ Park after a dire campaign throughout 2007/08.
The Newcastle front-men of Obafami Martins and Michael Owen have both struggled to score goals on a regular basis due to the lack of service from out on the wings this season, which has prompted Keegan and his scouts to go in search for available wingers who can feed his strikers.
“Pennant would be perfect in that role and his unhappiness about the situation at Liverpool has been noted.” said an insider at Newcastle.
Pennant has seen himself being frozen out of Anfield as Benitez prefers the tireless Dutchman Dirk Kuyt to be out on the right-side.
