It is believed that Rafa Benitez has sent scouts to watch New York Red Bull forward Jozy Altidore after Reading failed in an ambitious bid to bring the 18-year-old to the Premiership.

Altidore (pictured left) turned down the opportunity to play for the Premiership struggler’s declaring: “I’ve heard a lot about the club and it was an up and coming club that was interested in me, it looked like it was something that was going to be a good idea for me but the Red Bulls are where I’m going to be.”

“This is where my home is going to be right now, I’m committed to the team and I’m not even worried about what happened.” he added.

However, with interest from Real Madrid and now Liverpool, the striker who netted 15 times in 22 MLS appearances last year, could think twice about the opportunity of a lifetime.
