Match Preview: Hammers to hammer the Reds?
A repeat of the 2006 FA Cup Final, which saw Liverpool come from 2-0 and 3-2 down to win the game 3-1 on penalty kicks. Liverpool remain 14 points off the pace at the top of the Premier League, prior to Tuesday’s games, and have the second best away records in the league.
Last season Liverpool won both fixtures 2-1, having taken the lead in the game at Upton park, just 12 seconds into the second half, with Crouch adding a second. West Ham have been performing much better than last season, and lie 10th in the league.
Liverpool:
We’re on a poor run of form in the league, having not won since the 1-2 victory over Derby. Draws with Wigan, Man City, and Aston Villa could have been turned into wins with a better striking performance. Crouch rescued a 2-2 draw against Aston Villa on the 21st, after Liverpool had wasted several chances in front of goal. Defensively Liverpool have been doing fine, but a couple of bad split-second decisions have not helped.
Possible team: Reina, Finnan, Carragher, Hyypia, Riise, Pennant, Gerrard, Mascherano, Kewell, Torres, Crouch. Subs: Itandje, Aurelio, Benayoun, Babel, Crouch
West Ham United:
West Ham have not lost since a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates stadium on New Years day. Home performances from the Hammers have been below par, only being able to draw 1-1 against 10 man Reading on Boxing Day, and conceding several goals late in the game. Having beaten Manchester United here earlier in the season, and outplaying Arsenal, despite loosing, you could fancy the Hammers to get something from this.
Posibble team: Green, Neill, Ferdinand, Upson, McCartney, Ljungberg, Noble, Mullins, Bowyer, Boa Morte , Cole. Subs: Spector Wright, Collins, Reid, Bellamy
Match Prediction: Although both teams are on a poor run of form, Liverpool will have to improve on the FA Cup performance to get anything out of this, West Ham were impressive at Man City, and I am going for the Hammers to edge it.
West Ham 3-2 Liverpool

i wouldnt say the hammers are on a poor run of form
I would say they’re quite shite without a hope in hell’s chance
2-1 Reds
well considering the amount liverpool have spent over the past few years anything but a liverpool vistory will be a bit embarresing for the might reds.
west ham have spent 10 million net in 5 years, liverpool have spent 86 million net.
still at least weve both got some english players unlike some (arsenal)
At the end of the day though, money doesn’t guarantee results. Chelsea spent all that much and didn’t win the title last year! Which should be a minimum for them…
Should be a good, even match really, what with us being in a slightly vulnerable state. If West Ham can prevent us from scoring then they’ll win, since we’re bound to concede…
No matter what, Liverpool will always be classier than West ham. Mascherano will play for msure :p, he suspended lol.
My link to Liverpool is via my brother, me, i’ve been a Hammer since age 7. I think there’s a good rapport between both sets of fans (witness the good atmosphere at *that* F.A Cup final) - i remember our fans won the ‘best opposition fans’ on one of your websites with 60% of the vote, the next highest team was 8%.
Your biggest worry about playing West Ham is that we treat it as one of our biggest matches of the season, and if you’re not up for it (hello Man U) you’re gonna get your wallet stolen right at the close, possibly just as they announce there’s 4 minutes of extra time with a screamer from 40 yards.
Plus, you’ve got some new players that were only recently Hammers and this isn’t going to help them much if what we saw of Tevez at Upton Park on Boxing day is any indication. Carlitos, thanks for being such a softie when you play against us!
Here’s to an interesting game, as always.
2-1 to WHU with Yossi playing a shocker.
