Mascherano knocks Babel out of Olympics

Published by Zac Lee Rigg on August 17, 2008

Javier Mascherano’s Argentina have knocked the Netherlands and their captain Ryan Babel out of the Olympics.

Goals from Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria gave Argentina just enough to win 2-1. Holland left Babel isolated on the attack and the Dutch players now rejoin their clubs for the season. Babel could be back in time for the Middlesbrough game next Saturday.

Mascherano will move on and play Brazil in the semifinals where he will come up against another Red in Lucas Leiva.
