Mascherano in Argentina friendly

Mascherano in Argentina friendly thumbnail

Argentina demolished Mexico in an international friendly Wednesday. Three goals in the first half hour effectively killed the game and allowed the South American team to ease off and cruise to a 4-1 victory.

Javier Mascherano started in his customary defensive midfield position, but was sitting about 20 yards deeper than Liverpool fans will be accustomed to seeing him play at Anfield. With midfield partner Fernando Gago pushing up into the attack Mascherano covered a lot of horizontal ground to close down attacks. He was up to his tenacious tackling throughout the match, and was booked midway through the second half for a particularly nippy challenge.

Most of the match featured a sizzling hot attack of Leo Messi and Kun Aguero shredding through the Mexican defense with frightening incisiveness. They each grabbed a goal in the drubbing.
