Lucas and Brazil into semis

Published by Zac Lee Rigg on August 16, 2008

Lucas Leiva has helped Brazil qualify for the semifinals of the Olympics in Beijing. The Liverpool midfielder played all 120 minutes as the South American giants defeated Cameroon in extra time.

Goals from Sobis and Marcelo mean that Brazil have every chance of winning a medal, or finally winning the Olympics outright, something Brazil as a nation has never done.

Liverpool’s two other representatives, Ryan Babel and Javier Mascherano, face each other Tuesday. Whichever team wins that, Holland or Argentina, will face Brazil in the semifinals.
