Italian call-up for Dossena

Published by fiz on August 17, 2008

Andrea Dossena’s season finally looks like getting started after he was called by Marcelo Lippi to the Italy squad for a friendly against Austria.

The fullback has only one cap under his name and he’s hoping to repay manager’s faith in choosing him. His first game for Italy was in a friendly match against South Africa in October 2007.

Dossena made his league debut yesterday in a 1-0 win over Sunderland.

Am i the only red fan who thinks Dessana had another dodgy game for us yesterday. I am really surprised by how bad he has been defensively considering he is italian and they’re supposed to be the masters of defensive play. Hopefully it is just early days but he’s gonna need to be a lot sharper if he’s to be successful. I can’t wait till we get mascherano and babel back. We need them badly.

You are not alone, roders25. An Italian who can’t defend. That’s worrying. He’s often caught off position in games.

I really hope things will change for the better as we move on.
