Hicks met Klinsmann twice thumbnail

It was reported in The Echo that Tom Hicks met Jurgen Klinsmann twice to negotiate an option as an insurance policy, to have him become manager if Rafa left for other clubs that were rumored in the UK press.

The first of two meetings was held in New York. Owners Hicks and Gillett were present alongside Rick Parry and several other members of the board.

The second meeting was held at Hicks’ holiday home in California during Thanksgiving weekend. Parry wasn’t present this time round.

Rafa had earlier called for a detailed explanation of what really happened. He was aware of the news that the Americans were having talks with Klinsmann, but he admitted that he was shocked to see Parry involved.

Parry today responded to the latest crisis by saying “I am more than happy to sit down and talk to Rafa about this.”
