Spaniard Speeds Up Journey To Anfield Exit Door?
It appears that Rafa Benitez was far from impressed with Xabi Alonso’s refusal to travel to Italy with the rest of the squad for last night’s Champions League victory over Inter Milan until his missus gives birth to his first child.
The Daily Mail reports: A row has increased tension between the pair and could hasten Alonso’s Anfield departure, the Liverpool midfielder insisted on staying behind instead of boarding the flight for Tuesday’s Champions League tie with Inter Milan.
It is understood that he was convinced he would be allowed to link up with his team-mates once partner Nagore had given birth on Merseyside. But Benitez announced that Alonso would not be travelling.
“He wanted to come out here but only if everything was okay.” said Rafa.
“We could not wait and had to make a decision. You cannot wait and wait and wait for any player. There comes a time when you have to decide and make use of your squad.” he added.
With Barcelona reportedley waiting in the wings to sign the Spanish midfielder during the summer transfer window, it look’s increasingly likely that Benitez will off-load Alonso to build up his own transfer funds.

If Benitez get rid of Alonso then they should do a swap deal were Henry come’s the other way,as Danny Guthrie will just fill in Alonso’s place
I agree with Kevin’s comments - I think it’s time that Rafa gave some of our youngsters a chance to play in the first team.
Alonso’s best days are behind him IMO. Wouldn’t be the end of the world if he decides to leave this summer..
But can Nagore stays?
Alonso is a top player with so much technical ability. we cant knock him, hes better than lucas anyway. But the thought of henry coming to anfield is just tantalising!
Alonso’s 26 and Lucas is just 21…
