Finnan: Kerr was the reason

Steve Finnan admitted yesterday; “that was a frustrating time for me. I am a right-back, full stop. But I never really played in my position under Brian. I didn’t feel I got a fair crack of the whip.”

Steve Finnan, holder of 50 caps for his country, has announced his retirement from International football. “I’ve been thinking about this for the last few months,” admitted Finnan. “It’s not a decision I arrived at lightly. But I’ll be 34 by the time the next World Cup finals come around, so I think it’s only fair to everyone that I give the younger lads a chance now.
