Finnan future in doubt as Benitez expected to announce Swiss arrival

Rafael Benitez is expected to announce the capture of Swiss right-back Phillip Degen from Borussia Dortmund after a bosman switch to Anfield.

The move has raised doubts over Steve Finnan’s future as a Red as Benitez now has Degen and Arbeloa at his disposal, both battling for the right-back starting slot, with Jamie Carragher more than capable of holding the position also.

Forum board speculation suggests that the Irishman could make an emotional return to his former club Fulham after they narrowly escaped relegation.
