‘Chief of Merseyside’ Set for Inter return whilst Alonso misses out

Published by tom1892 on March 10, 2008

Rafa Benitez has confirmed that holding-midfielder Javier ‘The Chief of Merseyside’ Mascherano will feature in tomorrow’s clash at the San Siro after returning from a short lay-off due to injury.

“Mascherano is okay and is fit. He will be here, but Alonso’s girlfriend is having a baby so he will not be here. Maybe we will try to change without Xabi (pictured). We have the training session tonight (Monday) and then we will decide.” said the Spaniard.
“We were talking but he had a clear idea of what he wanted to do. He wanted to come if everything was okay, but we couldn’t wait and in the end we needed to decide.

“I cannot wait for one player. You cannot wait and so I had to make use of my squad.” he added.

It’s good to read that Javier will be in the squad to face Inter. I was worried that he would be out of the game after that dirty kick by Mark Noble of West Ham. I believe we can play without Xabi and go through to the next round (after all we do have a large squad full of quality midfielders).
