Bridge collapse ends Moscow hopes

Published by Purch on May 1, 2008

Liverpool were sent crashing out after a disappointing night at Stamford Bridge. Liverpool were beaten 3-2 after extra-time (4-3 on aggregate). Rafa Benitez fielded a strong side as he looked to end his jink of not scoring AT chelsea in his tenure as reds manager.

The last Liverpool got a goal there, Bruno Cheyrou scored the winner in a 1-0 scoreline. Didier Drogba put Chelsea ahead as Reina once again let in a goal at his near post whilst Frank Lampard played despite his mother’s untimely passing just a few days ago.

Liverpool did score there and that was done by a Spaniard called Fernando Torres. a lovely ball from Benayoun and a calm finish past Cech. No more goals could be score inside the time the referee had indicated.

Extra-time was one step too far. First Michael Ballack was brought down rather bemusingly to win a penalty. As the referee pointed first to the spot then ordered Hyypia to get off the ground. Lampard tucked it away and began crying.

This came after Essien’s strike was disallowed. Didier Drogba got a second before a cracker from Ryan Babel 2 minutes from the end gave hopes of a comeback but it was too little too late as Chelsea head on to face United.
