Benitez: Rift brought us closer
January 19, 2008 · By fiz · Jump to comments
Benitez hopes the instability surrounding Anfield will draw his playing staff together and foster the team spirit required to deliver a trophy and, by extension, possibly save his job.
“The situation may have brought everyone closer together, for sure,” he said yesterday. “When you play well and score five goals after some draws, it shows the team spirit is much better and the confidence of the players is higher. That’s one of the keys if you want to win trophies, you need a good team spirit. It’s easier when you are winning, so we need to win some games in a row and everything will be much better.
“The situation comes up briefly with the players, but not too much. Usually I am in my office preparing the training, and maybe five minutes before I’ll speak to the injured players and then go out on to the pitch and talk about what to do in the next game. Sometimes we talk about everything, but normally we are trying to prepare the training sessions. We normally talk about football and the games.”
