Benitez monitoring the ‘new’ Gerrard?
According to the Sportsmail, Liverpool gaffer Rafael Benitez is monitoring Middlesbrough’s youngest ever captain Lee Cattermole.
It is believed that Benitez is impressed with the potential the young midfield teenager is showing despite being only 19. Cattermole is valued at around £5million and Benitez believes the young English has what it takes to be a better player in future.
Lee Cattermole is known for his no-nonsense tackle. He still has a contract which will ends on 2010.Teesside-born Cattermole is one of an increasing line of talented youngsters to emerge from Middlesbrough’s impressive Academy system.
Sven-Göran Eriksson stated that he believes Cattermole has a “bright future ahead of him” and many believe he will go on to become one of the best midfielders in the Premiership.

He is a quality young player and Rafa recognizes the need for our future team as things slipped a little under Evans & Houllier, became a little static in the ressies.
£5mill would be money well spent.
Yes, I agree he would be a great addition althought he will have to control his hot temper. What happened to Michael Johnson of Man city - Is he also on Rafa’s wish list?
He’d probably be far more expensive, seeing as City don’t desperately need the cash and want to keep him, so can just name their price.
