Benitez fuels the fire (Podcast)

With the race for 4th hotting up, Liverpool have made the headlines for all the wrong reasons this week.

Javier Mascherano’s sending off was the main story of the week after a lack of respect to referees was highlighted by Ashely Cole’s dissent towards Mike Riley. Just a few days later and the Argentine midfielder saw red at Old Trafford much to his managers anger.

It’s been a few days since and now the City of Culture is gearing up to its second Merseyside Derby of the season.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez, speaking in his pre-match press conference, says it’s time to put the incident behind them and focus on the derby game which could ultimately decide the fate of who will win the race for 4th.

But staying on the theme of officiating, Benitez denies that Everton were victims of poor refereeing decisions in the reverse fixture at Goodison Park, instead saying he felt it was his side who received the short end of the straw, despite being awarded two penalties.
