Benitez edges closer to £15m Silva

After being priced out of signing Barry, Villa and Milner, Benitez has turned to his former club, the cash strapped Valencia. He is targeting their wing wonder, David Silva, for an expected £15m. Valencia are desperate for cash and will be looking to cash in on the Spaniard, who has been in impressive form in the Euros, driving Spain to a spot in the quarter-finals.

Silva can play on either wing or just behind the striker, and his style has been compared to Babel’s; direct, fast and tricky. He also carries a much-feared shot, a valuable asset.

However, Silva, like his club mate and compatriot Villa, has reiterated his desire to focus solely on the Euros and decide his future later. “I’ll say the same thing that David Villa has. We are totally concentrated on the national squad and all of these things we’ll look at when we finish the Euro” Silva said from Spain’s mountainside training base on Saturday.
