Benitez contract talks stall

Published by fiz on September 14, 2008

Rafael Benitez last night insisted he wants to stay at Liverpool as the owners stall on activating a one-year contract extension option.

It’s believed that his current contract will run until 2010 with an option of a one-year-extension.

Benitez told The Mirror last night: “I cannot talk too much about me or this situation. My priority is to speak about the team.

“I think we have improved the squad every year that I have been here and if we can continue doing that I will be pleased.

“Does anything make me want to go home? My home is the Wirral.”

Few months ago, Tom Hicks made a promise to buy out co-owner George Gillett and give manager Benitez a new contract.

“If I were to buy George out, the first thing I would do is offer Rafa a one-year extension to make sure he is going to be here up to when we get the stadium,” Hicks Sky Sports News on 17th April.

Ive completely lost all faith in these two now, after supporting them right up until the recent delay to our new stadium.

My faith in Rafa is 100% and always has been, he is the man for our club, but we have to get rid of the Yanks, hopefully DIC will save us and give Rafa the money he deserves.

We’re being left behind with these two at the helm!

A truely fantastic performance against united. Things are starting to look up. We have players that actually look as if they want to play. Riera looks to be a positive signing. Although he didnt score Keane played great. Most of this was achieved with Torres and Gerrard on the bench. All we need now is the scum pictures above to sell out and walk away with their undeserved profit. Oh and also give some seats to Moores and Parry on the plane. Hopefully DIC or Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum will use his own wealth to free us from the cancer that is the Anfield Board.

I’m totally fed up with these two clowns at the helm. And absolutely disgusted at Parry and Moores who took an extra 8 million or so just by selling to the Yanks instead of DIC.

I can’t believe Hicks and Gillette would go for another manager now that Rafa has build a team capable of challenging for the Premiership. Nobody knows what’s on their minds: whether they’ll sell to DIC or not but surely they can’t throw away what Rafa has built over 5 years. A new contract is a must and the sooner the better.

I’m no fan of the Yanks and won’t be sorry when they go but whoever the owners are Rafa still has work to do.

Saturday was fantastic and hopefully will be the catalist to push us to the next level, however with regards to Rafa he still has a lot to prove in terms of making us champions.

We all know we haven’t got the spending power of Chelsea and Utd and asking Rafa to compete with them on that basis is a tall order. Having said that Rafa hasn’t helped himself either by playing weaker teams agaisnt the likes of Portsmouth and Reading and costing the team points.

He is doing a good job imo and certainly deserves the support of the fans and the board but until he delivers the prize he was brought here to do, the title, then he isn’t untouchable.
