Babel and Mascherano Set to Return Early from Olympics?

Published by fowlergod9 on August 6, 2008

With today’s decision from the Court of Arbitration for Sports allowing the clubs to keep their players from the Olympic Games, Rafael Benitez could decide to keep both Ryan Babel and Javier Mascherano at Liverpool.

With Steven Gerrard a doubt for the Champions League qualifier and Benitez initial reluctance to release Babel for Olympian duty this summer, Benitez may decide to recall the Dutch international in order to strengthen the squad before the start of the Premiership without any repercussions.

The CAS has ruled that Messi, Diego, and Rafinha are allowed to be absent from the Games by their clubs as the tournament is not on the official FIFA calender.
