Aston Villa (a): Preview

Published by Redneck on August 31, 2008

To coincide with the end of the summer transfer window, Gareth Barry’s Aston Villa welcomes the Reds to Villa Park for our crunch afternoon clash (4pm BST).

Barry has already declared that he will be giving 100% to Villa, and Rafael Benitez shrugs off any talk of ‘awkwardness’ between the two managers insisting he will shake hands with Villa manager Martin O’Neill after the game.

Javier Mascherano (pictured) is set to make his return to first-team action after winning gold in Beijing with Argentina, more than likely being a direct replacement for the crocked Steven Gerrard who is expected to be absent for the next couple of weeks.

Holding midfielder, Lucas Leiva will also be available for the game and may feature from the subs bench.

Sami Hyypia remains a doubt whilst he continues to nurse a hamstring injury.

Villa have 7 missing players all expected to make a return to action later today.
