Arsenal’s £14m Alonso bid rejected

Published by fiz on September 2, 2008

Liverpool turned down a £14m bid from Arsenal for midfielder Xabi Alonso on transfer deadline day, according to The Independent.

Wenger is desperate to bring in midfield cover, having already lost Flamini, Hleb and Gilberto Silva.

Rafael Benitez insisted that it’d take a massive offer for Liverpool to consider selling Xabi Alonso. It’s speculated that Liverpool’s asking price is £18m.

With SG and Torres out, and screwballs like Keane playing tweedle-dy toes, its better to keep alonso. 18m is probably set high to save rafa’s face that Alonso will stay becos no one can afford him.
