Arsenal in the Champions League – Good or Bad Draw?
As speculation over the possible fixing of the draw continues, we look to see whether our draw with Arsenal was a good draw given the teams available.
Obviously the best two teams to draw would have been Shalke 04, or Fenerbahce. Arsenal’s current form in Europe is good, a 0-2 win at the San Siro stadium against AC Milan will give the side much added confidence, but Liverpool are the first side to beat Inter Milan twice in one season for since 2006.
Arsenal are a team that like to hit teams swiftly on the counter attack, and Liverpool have also shown recently that they can also break away swiftly, and with a striker like Torres, Wenger has already said that Arsenal were fortunate at Anfield that Torres was struggling with injury.
Torres showed against Inter Milan that he needs half-a-chance to score, whilst Fabregas showed that Liverpool cannot afford to give him two feet to work in with his thunderbolt against AC Milan.
Overall I think it will be difficult, but Liverpool need to make the most of the second leg being at Anfield.
Predictions:
1st Leg: Arsenal 2-1 Liverpool
2nd Leg: Liverpool 1-0 Arsenal
(2-2 Agg; Arsenal 0-1 Liverpool on away goals)
(March 18, 2008)

We play our best games away from home so you’ll have to do better than lose 2-1 at Emirates. I’m not saying I’m confident (which I’m not at the moment) just stating a fact. Oh and please, please spank the Mancs on Sunday.
We should beat you at home and at least draw at Anfield. Im not questioning your ability, but ours is far superior. Especially against top teams who defend less. We battered you at home in the league.
You did. But you were in your past vein of form for the season whilst we were in our worst. And you only broke us down once Alonso had to go off injured and we had to put Arbeloa of all people in his defensive-midfield role.
It’ll be a different story in the Champions League, and too close to tell (although i’d admit you’re favourites).
“best”* not “past”
