Are we becoming a two man team?

Published by liverpoolrox on March 9, 2008

Critics seem to have a lot to say about Liverpool these days. First it was Benitez, and how his rotation policy is messing up the team. Then, it was how incompetent Benitez is in the transfer window. When they were silenced by Liverpool’s good form and the sensational form of Fernando Torres, a new spate of criticisms have arrived.

The brilliant form of our club of, and in particular midfield lynchpin Steven Gerrard and red-hot striker Fernando Torres, has raised questions over our alleged over-reliance upon the duo. Together, the pair have bagged 29 out of Liverpool’s 53 in the league, which turns out to be an astonishing 54.7%.

The fact that these two players are shining gives squad players like Pennant, Benayoun and Kuyt little chance to shine. And if the squad players are not performing to their true potential, and Gerrard and Torres are injured, what will happen to our performances? We will have to play games with a formation of Kuyt and Voronin, which doesn’t exactly strike fear into the hearts of our opponents. Should we be worrying about this or is it just mindless press speculation?

Should we sign more world-class players or should we just let the matter rest as it is, with our fingers crossed that none of our players will get injured?

Hunt, St John, Keegan Toshack, Rush Dalglish, would you say teams containig any of the previous were a 2 man team……….. the scum without Ronaldo this year were would they be without his goals they have more to worry about diver getting injured, because shrek and tevez would struggle to keep them were they are.

    Better than being a one-man team…

next season hopefully we can be a 3,4,5 man team with some quality additions during the summer…

Completely agree with redrob too … the scum would be nowhere without winker and shrek.

All great clubs have outstanding players that are head and shoulders above the rest, and it would be quite an impossible task to have all 11 players who are like that.

What about Carra being a human brick-wall, Reina being almost unpenetrable(sp), Mascherano (Chief of Merseyside) being the pitbull he is??

Gerrard and Nando are bangin’ them in, but it is these players who are also preventing teams from scoring against us (with exception to January and February!).

Well said redrob! wev definetly got class other than them two. Like redneck said wev got mascherano, babel, carra and reina who are without a doubt world class.

However, i do think in terms of attacking we cant really see anyone scoring apart from them two. Babel chips in now and then, but we definetly need additions. maybe another striker and winger???
