Daniel Agger’s comeback has been postponed. A waterlogged pitch has ruined Agger’s chance of getting a bit more match fitness and sharpness ahead of this weekend’s clash against Middlesbrough.

Agger broke his metatarsal at the same time as Alonso but his return has taken much longer. Speaking to Liverpoolfc.tv, Agger said, “Running around on the training ground is not the same as doing it on the pitch, but I’m almost back to full fitness now”

His absence has meant appearances for youngster Jack Hobbs, who was signed from Lincoln. Sami Hyypia has been played there but recently due to his absence, Alvaro Arbeloa has also covered for Agger when Rafa decided against the chance of starting Hobbs who has little experience.

Fans will love to see the return of Agger as the club has been weak at the back in recent matches. Agger is not only a great young defender with a good future ahead of him but he attacks and scores great goals too, most notably his very first Liverpool goal against West Ham. So Agger has not played a reserve game as predicted this week but is likely to be in the squad for the trip to the Riverside.
